What's New at Haskin's Hagstroms / Hagstrom USA? 4/6/08

Our FOR SALE section includes a number of   Hagstrom Guitars For Sale,  Hagstrom Basses (Hagstrom Bass Guitars) For Sale,as well as Hagstrom Parts For Sale, and now   Hagstrom Amps For Sale.

INSTRUMENTS The highlight is an extensive section on The Prototype Jimmy designed and personally built (we are almost positive) by James D'Aquisto and expanded the First Run Jimmy section. We have also added The Futurama Story, a Mahogany Goya 90, a rarely seen H III, no not Hagstrom III, but an H III, and finally, an ultra rare left handed NOS Jazz Bass.

PEOPLE AND EVENTS: We finally finished one 4-part and one 3-part section on two best Hagstrom   shows ever, The Swedish Guitar Shows. I guarantee, unless you have scoured Sweden and can smell out guitars, you will see things here you have never seen before.

PEOPLE AND EVENTS: The Visitors and Collectors Pages   have been reorganized. There are numerous new entries in almost every category. Some pictures are exceptional and stories are fascinating. There are also new entries in the Professionals Pages.

THE NEW HAGSTROMS: John   has put together a new Buyer's Guide for the New Hagstrom Line that we hope will hope will help educate all those out there who are thinking of buying one of these instruments. We have not seen them all but will cover all we've seen. Basically we think they are a good value that could be a great value with a little more experience and refinement.

We have upgraded the AMPS ETC. section and expanded the BT-100 section to include a great story by Lennie Johnsson on special engineering projects for ABBA.

If you have ANY interest in RESTORATIONS, this is a must see: the complete restoration step by step of a Hagstrom III It's an extensive project complete with all the things that worked and all that did not. I am very proud of my work here. John

LINKS: This is the most exciting announce we have been able to make in a long time. For all Bjarton   lovers out there and for all you Hagstrom   acoustic fans, our friend Robbi from Sweden announces this day a new website: Bjarton.Com. Some of you know that Bjarton   made all Hagstrtom   acoustic instruments and that the records of serial numbers were not to be found. Robbi found them so it is now possible to date your acoustic instrument. You must visit this site, the first Bjarton   dedicated website in the world! Robbi has kindly allowed us to include on our site a Prototype Hagstrom P-47 made by Bjarton   when Hagstrom   was trying to select a dsign for a new thin hollow body model. Thanks, Robbi. UPDATE 12/27/07: The Bjarton site now has Spare Parts for Hagstrom   and Bjarton   acoustic instruments. based on finding and acquiring the entire supply of NOS factory parts.

ANNOUNCEMENT: We've merged! All the information you have enjoyed over the years on Hagstrom   guitars,
    Hagstrom basses,
and Hagstrom amps at HagstromUSA   and all the information of the past six years from
Haskin's Hagstroms is now on one site! John serves as Webmaster and Kwinn contrubute his wisdom and
experiences of many years and writes numerous articles when the spirit moves him.   John   and   Kwinn

ANNOUNCEMENT: In case you listed anything on our Message Board, that board was destroyed and all data lost. No wait.... it's back.... Oh, now it's gone again.... and now it's back but now it's who knows any more. We continue to regroup and look for one that we can count on. In the meantime this one sometimes does work. Goood luck.

Handy Hint

Here's a handy hint for those who don't know it: If the format hard to read (print is too small) press and hold the CONTROL key and press the "+" key. If it seems too big or you want to reverse the process press and hold the CONTROL key and press the "-" key. In the larger mode you may occasionally miss certain text items, depending on your monitor, so if it seems "off" go back to what we defined as "normal" or "medium" size and check it out.

About This Website

Hagstrom
guitars were built in Alvdalen Sweden from 1958 to 1981 and are receiving rekindled interest worldwide and especially in the United States. This is the premiere web site featuring Hagstrom   guitars and amplifiers in the US. However, we are not limited by geographic boundries. Even before merging, the two sites have had visitors from nearly 50 countries! All are welcome, as we have a common interest. If you need answers, wish to share your pictures and stories check out our FAQs, the Easy Maintenance section, our Message Board, or Contact Us. If you still can't find what you are looking for check the Links to find Hagstrom   experts all over the world. We hope you find you have come to a place that can answer most of your questions and that will create some new ones for you.

As you look through our material note many instruments are not in "Near Mint" condition. Many have been restored to original working, if not appearance, condition. We have tried to indicate where parts and repairs were needed and have been open when non-original materials were used. Frankly, as scarce as parts are becoming, we often use non-original parts to restore player grade instruments to working condition and save the original parts for collector grade instruments. We expect this practice will become more true in the future.

The information provided here comes from "hands on experience". It is here to assist prospective buyers as well as current Hagstrom   owners. It cannot be stressed enough: it is highly unlikely that original matching parts will be readily available as the restoration trend continues, so if you want an original and complete guitar, you're better off spending more up front and purchasing a complete and original instrument. If you don't, it will probably cost you a lot more in the long run, or you may live with the frustration of owning an incomplete instrument. Be Patient!

A Special Thank You.

Thanks to Ben Lilley who designed this site & made it possible for me to create menus and pages and enter data in such a way that it would look good & do what I wanted. If you are interested in a really great designer contact Ben at Qualutions.com This guy does great work! John

Our History and Philosophy

Another Hagstrom
Website? Don’t we have enough? I guess that depends. Each site has a unique personality and each offers something different. I wanted to create a website that would do some things differently:
  • I wanted to show groups, families of guitars together. For example in the Kent family I have matching guitars and basses in every color produced commercially.

  • I want to show bigger pictures than one sees on most websites. I love the pictures I see but often became frustrated because they were too small to appreciate the details of these fine instruments.

  • I want to show more closeups and details than one sees on most websites. I become frustrated when people talk about details that I can't see.

  • I wanted to show examples of restoration both to offer restoration services to others and to inspire and show those interested how they can restore their own instruments in a manner that keeps then as true to the original as possible.

  • I wanted to share easy maintenance information with owners so they don't blow the switches in trying to clean their vintage instruments or otherwise create more problems than they prevent.

  • I want to provide educational material for Hagstrom   fans, to show the differences between similar models, by showing, for example, a Concord and a Concord De Luxe together.

  • Also an educational endeavor, I want to show the evolution of instruments that appear quite similar, for example the Hagstrom II and an H II, and the H II N, side by side with the differences pointed out and close up shots for emphasis.

  • I want a section that emphasizes Memorabilia, shows catalogs, price lists, ads, and on and on.

  • I hoped to create a site design that makes finding things on an ever changing site easy. (No offense, guys, but some websites have great information but are just plain hard to navigate.)

  • I want to host a place that can provide objective information on the New Hagstroms   to all those considering purchasing one of these instruments.
My original intent was to show almost exclusively instruments that I or we own or have owned and to write all our own copy. That has changed to wanting to show a more complete representation of the Hagstrom   line with the realization that I will never own such a collection myself. I also realized there are a lot of talented writers out there who can contribute much if they care to do so. In any event, please feel free to visit often, to send us your thoughts and pictures, and to submit an article or review for publication. Things will change regularly and we will announce it here on our Home Page.

When I was approached by Kwinn   in early 2004 with the idea of taking on HagstromUSA   and perhaps merging the sites I was extremely honored that he, The Master, would even consider me and overwhelmed at the enormity of the project. It took a 1 1/2 years but was a fantastic opportunity and project. I do not believe any information contained in the pages of the original HagstromUSA   was lost in the merger and I know that my own information has been greatly expanded and improved. The most challanging & fun was putting together two articles we had written separately reviewing or showing the same model instrument. It turns out that it is far easier to start something from scratch.

Kwinn   started HagstromUSA   on webTV in a format that was far more difficult to manage than the HTML format in which I write. Frankly, if I had to do all that he did, I am not sure I ever would have had a site. The WebTV format placed severe limitations on the size of photos he could use, among other things. If you see photos here that are not quite up to today's standards of size or clarity remember they were included deliberately and should be considered historical documents.

It is our hope that Haskin's Hagstroms   and HagstromUSA   can be the formost Hagstrom   website in the United States and be recognized as providing a unique perspective throughout the world. John
